Will Clyburn is heading to Iowa State.

As per NCAA transfer rules, the 6-foot-7 forward will redshirt next year and complete his final year of collegiate eligibility for the Cyclones in 2012-13.

Clyburn averaged 17.1 points and 7.8 boards to earn All-Mountain West Conference honors.

"I felt like it was a good fit for me," Clyburn said.

Citing a desire to be closer to his home in Detroit, Clyburn asked new Utah coach Larry Krystkowiak for his release last week.

Will Clyburn, who led Utah in scoring and rebounding last season, asked for his release after coach Jim Boylen was fired following the season.

Clyburn averaged 17.1 points and 7.8 rebounds this past season.

"I made that decision long before finding out who the new coach would be," Clyburn said in a statement. "Coach [Krystkowiak] said he had my best interests in mind and if I felt it was right for me to leave, he would honor that. He also said if I decide Utah is still the best place for me that he would allow me to stay, and I really appreciate that."

The University of Utah hired Nets assistant Larry Krystkowiak as their coach Sunday, signing him to a four-year deal worth $2 million annually.

The move came three weeks after athletic director Chris Hill fired Jim Boylen following consecutive losing seasons.

Krystkowiak takes over a team that went 13-18 last season and returns every player except Jay Watkins.
